How to Sell a Painting Online: A Beginner's Guide

Putting a painting up for sale was once very easy. The artist simply walked with his works to one of the central streets of the city, an embankment or a nearby park, hung paintings on the nearest wall or placed them right on the sidewalk, expecting that one of the citizens passing by would be interested in his canvas and want to buy a painting. In the days before the advent of the global era of the Internet, this option was perhaps the only way to get noticed, get a share of recognition for your work and talent, and also at least partially recoup the cost of the materials spent on the work.

No, of course, more serious and well-known artists did not stand on the sidewalks and did not hang their works on mesh fences (at least after they became famous), but collaborated directly with art galleries or wealthy connoisseurs of their work. However, in those days, there was simply no other way and another place to sell paintings for young artists.

With the advent of the digital age and with the advent of a computer in every family, it has become much easier and more convenient to buy paintings online through the personal pages of authors or in specialized communities than live. Undoubtedly, along with this, a certain amount of romance has gone, which accompanied walks through these kind of «street galleries». However, along with this, it has become incomparably easier for anyone, even a very young artist, to put up a painting for sale. Just a couple of mouse clicks — and absolutely anyone can see your picture.

Nevertheless, as before, placing a painting somewhere does not mean selling it. Here, first of all, the question arises of where exactly to put the picture up for sale. As a rule, young artists start posting their work in personal and thematic communities on social networks. Despite the simplicity of this approach, there is a problem with how to make sure that those who want to buy a painting can find you.

On the other hand, from the buyer’s side, everything also looks not as simple as it might seem at first glance. If you want to buy a painting printed on canvas and simply beautifully cut into pieces, then there are more than enough offers for such services in every city. If you just want to hang some painting on the wall, then template pictures of street artists are also great. But what if you need to find something more interesting, original and, perhaps, more artistic?

The internet has given us tons of opportunities to search, but where is it really worth looking? The paintings of young artists of Ukraine are really worthy of attention, but due to the lack of specialized sites for the sale and purchase of paintings, the process of such a search can be very delayed or not at all successful. The main reason for the creation of the Artcompass Club resource was precisely the desire to fill this information vacuum and enable those who are looking for where to buy paintings online and those who are looking for where to sell paintings to find each other.
